TOMMY KNOCKED ON the penthouse door. He’d brought a box of chocolates and a bouquet of flowers. He’d thought he’d have trouble getting past the security guard at the desk.

“Mr. Mattson was very specific. I am to take these to her door and make sure she gets them,” he told the desk guard who started to argue. “He wants me to make sure she is alone,” Tommy whispered. “If I don’t call back soon...”

“Fine, but be quick. I’ll call up to let her know you’re coming.”

Tommy stopped him with a look.

“Fine. Just go up. She’s in number two. The passcode is 409.” He waved him away as if to say that both the woman upstairs and Fitz were a pain in his behind. Tommy didn’t doubt it.

The elevator let him out on the top floor. He walked down the hall to number two and knocked, wondering what kind of reception he would get. He couldn’t wait to see what kind of woman Fitz would actually pay money to keep.

He made a mental bet with himself. The door opened. He lost the bet. Worse, for a moment, he was speechless. “Margo Collins?”

“Yes?” The resemblance to Bella was shocking. Long dark hair. Green eyes. On closer inspection, he could see that she looked nothing like her beyond the obvious. Bella’s features were softer and she was a little shorter and curvier.

“I have a delivery,” he managed to say around his shock.

“From Fitz?” Margo asked and frowned. “He never gives me flowers but especially not chocolates. He says they’ll make me fat.”

“I guess he changed his mind,” Tommy said, seeing that he’d messed up already.

“Well, it’s okay with me,” she said with a giggle as she outstretched her arms for her gifts.

“Mr. Mattson also wanted me to pick up something for him while I’m here.”

She studied him for a moment as if noticing him for the first time, then shrugged and said, “Come in.”

He followed her inside the apartment. Everything was white from the walls to the ceiling to the carpet on the floor and the furnishings. There were large windows that looked out on the hillside and the city.

Margo headed for the kitchen with her presents. In the living room, the television was on a reality show. The place was so clean and neat, Tommy couldn’t believe anyone actually lived here.

He noticed her rummaging around in the bouquet and realized that she was looking for a card from Fitz. “Mr. Mattson said he didn’t need a card because you already know how he feels about you.” Her face lit up. “I need a folder he thinks he left here.”

“In here?” she asked and turned toward what appeared to be an office.

Margo busied herself, humming as she put her flowers into a vase and opened the box of chocolates. “Oh, Fitzy, you really are going to make me fat. You never give me candy. Are you being a bad boy?” She chuckled as she popped a chocolate into her mouth.

In the small office, Tommy quickly checked the desk.
